Redhawks Roll Past Mavericks, 77-47

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball bounced back from Wednesday night's loss to Penn St Altoona by defeating the last place Medaille Mavericks convincingly Satuday afternoon, 77-47. Four different Redhawks finished the game in double-digit scoring figures led by Dasja Anderson and Ayanna Mazyck who each finished with 16. Anderson nearly recorded a double-double, adding nine rebounds, three steals and two assists to the box score. Mazyck added five rebounds, three assists and a steal, playing just 22 minutes off the bench. The duo shot a combined 12 of 20 (60%) from the floor.

Eight different Redhawks scored in today's contest (seven in the first half alone). La Roche was most impressive offensively in the second and fourth quarters, shooting a combined 60% (15-25) during the second and fourth, but were most impressive defensively in the first and third quarters, holding Medaille to just 16 combined points in the first and third. The Mavericks also shot only 24% (5-21) from the field in those quarters.

LRU led for the entireity of Saturday's AMCC matchup. Today's 30-point win is their second largest margin of victory this season. Now 12-1 in conference play, La Roche owns a one game lead in the standings to Hilbert (11-2).

How it Happened

La Roche started the game knocking down three of their first four shots to gain an early 8-2 advantage. Medaille would pull within three after hitting a 3-PT to make the score 10-7 LRU with 4:08 to play in the first. The Redhawks closed out the quarter on an impressive 11-0 run to take a commanding 14-point lead after just one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, La Roche knocked down 57% of their shots from the field and added five points to their lead, heading into halftime ahead 43-24. Ayanna Mazyck went off for nine points in nine minutes in the second quarter, knocking down 3 of 4 triples in the quarter.

Mazyck drilled her fourth and final three-pointer off the contest as the buzzer sounded at the end of the third quarter to put La Roche up 59-33. La Roche's finished the game strong, going on to win by 30, their largest lead of the game.

Jenna Cole nearly finished with a double-double, recording 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Cole has scored 10 or more points in eight straight games and eleven of her last twelve. Jenna did shoot just 4 of 13 (31%) from the field, her second worst shooting percentage this season.

Danajah Sanders scored 12 points and knocked down 2 of 4 three-pointers. Sanders has put up 30 points combined in her last two games.

Shaundrea Butler dished a team-high four assists and added nine points, three steals and two rebounds to the box score while shooting 4 of 6 (67%) from the floor.

On the boards, La Roche out-rebounded Medaille 43-29.

Ayanna Mazyck tied her season-high with four triples on seven attempts (57%), including this deep shot from the logo.

As a unit, La Roche dished out 16 assists on 29 made field goals. The Redhawks have distributed the ball well as of late, averaging 17.0 assists per game over their last seven contests.

The Redhawks shot an impressive 44% (10-23) from beyond the arc, tying their second highest number of 3-PT in a game this season.

Senior forward Morgan Kennedy of Medaille scored her 1,000th career collegiate point and scored a game-high 20 points.

Diamond-Jay (DJ) Whittington provided seven points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 17 minutes off the bench while committing only one personal foul.

Freshman Hailey Sheesley made the most of her minutes, drilling her first career three-pointer and adding two rebounds.
