ERIE, Pa. - The La Roche University softball team (4-6, 4-4) dropped both AMCC Games of the Week Saturday afternoon to Penn St. Behrend (12-4, 6-2). The Lions took game one 9-1 and game two 4-3. The Redhawks are now 4-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play this season.

Game One - La Roche 1, Penn St. Behrend 9

The Lions dominated from start to finish in game one. Behrend went 11-25 (.440) at the plate while LRU went 5-21 (.238).

Alexa Young got the start on the mound for La Roche. Young pitched her fifth complete game of the season. In 4.2 innings, she allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs.

Devan Smith knocked in the Redhawks sole-run when she reached the bag on a fielders choice to score Kylee Greig

The Redhawks committed four errors in the field while Behrend committed two.

Game Two - La Roche 3, Penn St. Behrend 4

In the second game of the day, Behrend picked up right where they left off by scoring the first two runs in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the third. But in game two, LRU fought their way back in and made things interesting.

In the top of the fourth, Devan Smith doubled to left center to score Hoover. Two batters later, Brandi Clyde grounded out to the pitcher but scored Smith to tie the game 2-2. Then in the top of the fifth, Smith once again  hit an RBI double to score Maria Schussler as the Redhawks took a 3-2 lead, their first of the day.

Unfortunatley, Behrend scored another run in the bottom of the sixth on a single down the right field line to tie the game. With no outs in the bottom of the seventh and the bases loaded, the Lions scored the game-winning run on a walk.

Senior Devan Smith went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Smith has six multi-hit games this season so far.

Freshman Ashtin Hoover went a perfect 2-2 and scored a run. Hoover has recorded at least one hit in 10 straight games for LRU. She leads the AMCC and currently ranks in the top 10 in the country with a .563 batting average.

Alexa Young pitched her sixth complete game of the season in game two against PSB. In 6.1 innings, Young allowed 11 hits, four earned runs, walked two and struckout two.

As a unit, LRU batted 5-26 (.192), their third worst batting average in a game this season.
