PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche University softball team split two games with Hilbert college in a conference twinbill Sunday afternoon at the Baierl Athletic Complex. The Redhawks are now 6-8 overall this season and remain .500 in conference play at 6-6.

LRU took game one 9-1 thanks to stellar pitching from Alexa Young and solid performances at the plate. The Hawks spoiled game two with 8 runs in the second inning and won 13-9.

Game One - La Roche 9, Hilbert 1

Senior Alexa Young pitched her eighth complete game and picked up her fourth win of the season in game one. In 6.0 IP, Young struckout eight batters, tied for her most in a game this season. She allowed just three hits and one earned run.

At the plate, Kelly Denk went a perfect 3-3, had a career-high three extra-base hits (two triples and a double) and stole a base. Denk scored three runs and tallied an RBI.

Meghan Haynes had a career-high three RBI and went 2-4 at the plate. Due to the 8-run rule after five innings, Haynes knocked in the run that concluded the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Alexis Myers tied her season-high with three RBI, including a two-run single to left-center in the bottom of the second.

Five other Redhawks notched a hit. As a unit, the Redhawks batted 10-26 (.385) while Hilbert went just 3-21 (.143).

Ashtin Hoover stole a season-high three bases and scored a run.

Game Two - La Roche 9, Hilbert 13

The Hawks (1-7, 1-5) got their first win of the season in game two. The Hawks scored eight runs in the top of the second and never looked back. The Redhawks pulled within three runs in the bottom of the third, but that's as close as they would get.

La Roche batted well again as a team, going 14-36 (.389). Unfortunatley, the Redhawks left 14 runners on-base.
LRU's 14 hits in game two are their second most in a game this season.

Meghan Haynes broke her career-high of three RBI set in game one with four RBI in game two. Haynes went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a double, two singles and a sacrifice fly. She also scored two runs and her three hits were a game-high.
