Redhawks Drop Home Opener vs. MSJ

McCANDLESS, Pa. - The La Roche University men's lacrosse team fell to Mt. Saint Joseph in their home opener Saturday afternoon, 7-6. The Redhawks are now 1-1 on the season. Today's game was LRU's final non-conference schedule game. Senior Devin Wolford tied his career-high with four goals.

How it Happened

Freshman Jordi Farr scored the first goal of the game just over a minute into the first. Senior Austen Lunt followed up with a goal of his own less than five minutes later to put the Redhawks up 2-0. MSJ scored with less than 30 seconds to play in the first to pull within one.

In the second period, Devin Wolford scored two goals and the Lions tallied one. The home team headed into halftime ahead 4-2.

MSJ then rallied off three straight goals in the third. Wolford scored his third goal of the game off an assist from Brent Burkhouse with less than two minutes to tie the game 5-5 but the Lions quickly answered with a goal of their own to go back up by one. Wolford would score again but MSJ would hold the lead the duration of the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Sylvis made 12 saves and posted a 63.2 save percentage.

Freshman LSM Nathan Petrarco had a game-high nine caused turnovers.

Isaiah Hubbard and Sebastian Colinear led the Redhawks with five ground balls each.

LRU outshot MSJ 39-30.
