Preview: Men's Lacrosse Home Opener

McCANDLESS, Pa. - The LRU men's lacrosse program plays their home opener on Saturday, March 20th at the Baierl Athletic Complex against Mt. Saint Joseph at 1:00 p.m. The game will be the Redhawks final of their non-conference schedule. No spectators will be permitted.

Series History

Men's lacrosse is 3-0 all-time vs. MSJ with their first win dating back to 2015. Last season, the Redhawks defeated the Lions on the road, 21-17. Senior midfielder Shawn McDanel went off for a career-high eight points (6 goals, 2 assists) in the victory. Senior midfield Austen Lunt also posted a career-high seven points (1 goal, 6 assists).

Last Time Out

The Redhawks won their season opener on Wednesday, March 17th at Hiram, 10-3. LRU led for the duration of the contest. The season opening victory was the program's first in 10 years. The win also marked the first for Cody Golon as a collegiate head coach. Seven Redhawks recorded at least one point with four recording multiple points. Brent Burkhouse had his sixth career hat-trick and a team-high four points. Freshman Nathan Petrarco was named the team's "Player of the Game" for his efforts on both sides of the ball (1G, 5 CT, 7 GB). Junior goalkeeper Chris Sylvis had a career-high .750 save percentage and is the first Redhawk goalkeeper to hold an opponent to three goals or less since the 2011 season.

Scouting the Lions

Mt. Saint Joseph has played in three games so far this season, posting an overall record of 1-2. Freshman midfielder Bryce Smith leads MSJ with 8 goals and 10 points. Sophomore midfielder Kevin Smith leads the team in assists with five. The lions have been outscored by their opponents 47-24 so far this season.
