Redhawks Sweep Medaille, Advance to Semifinals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche University baseball team swept Medaille College in the AMCC Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon in a best-of-three game series. The Redhawks took game one 9-0 and game two 8-1. LRU will host either Alfred State or Penn St. Altoona on Thursday, May 13 in the AMCC Semifinals in another best-of-three game series. The winner will advance to the AMCC Championship.

Game One - La Roche 9, Medaille 0

La Roche got their third shutout win in a row and fifth of the season in game one. Jake Seymour pitched his fifth complete game of the season, got his fourth shutout and improved to 6-0. In 7.0 innings pitched, Seymour posted 10 strikeouts, three walks, two hits and no earned runs. The AMCC Pitcher of the Week has given up just two earned runs in 41.0 innings pitched this season. His 0.44 ERA is the best in the conference.

As a unit, LRU went 11-29 (.379) at the plate. In comparison, Medaille batted 2-21 (.095).

Dylan Urban went 2-for-4 with a double and a game-high three RBI.

Nathan Stutz went a perfect 3-for-3 (all singles), stole a base and scored two runs. Stutz' three hits on the day ties his season and career-high.

Ryan Lynn went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Jay Novak went 1-for-3 with two RBI, scored a run and drew a walk.

Jason Swope went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two scored runs and drew a walk.

La Roche left seven batters on base.

Game Two - La Roche 8, Medaille 1

La Roche scored six of their eight runs in the first four innings, led by a three-run fourth. Tristan Tinney got the start on the mound in game two and moved to 5-0 on the season. In 5.0 innings pitched, Tinney posted a career-high 11 strikeouts, one walk, two hits and no earned runs. Zach Oddi, Jackson Rogers, Shawn Marcellus and Mike Nuzzo all came in for relief (in that order) and pitched an inning. Oddi gave up the only Medaille run of the day, but was able to strikeout the last two batters with the bases loaded to get out of the jam.

Aa a team, LRU went 11-33 (.333) at the plate while Medaille went 7-34 (.206).

Ryan Lynn went 3-for-4 with an RBI, drew a walk and scored a game-high three runs. Lynn has notched two or more hits in four of his last five games.

Jay Novak went 1-for-3 with a game-high thee RBI.

Jason Swope went 2-for-3, drew two walks and had a double.

Nathan Stutz went 2-for-3, drew two walks and scored a run.

Austin Hoffman, Mason Brooks and Phil Pieto each had an RBI.
