Redhawks Host Medaille in AMCC Quarterfinals

On Saturday May 8th, number one seed La Roche will host number nine seed Medaille College in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinals. The best-of-three series will begin at 1:00 p.m. A nine-inning third game will be played on Sunday, May 9th at 1:00 p.m. if necessary.

  • La Roche baseball has been ranked ninth in the Mideast Region in the NCAA's first Regional Rankings released yesterday.
  • The Redhawks finished the AMCC regular season 15-1 and captured their seventh straight regular season conference title. All eight other AMCC teams suffered four or more losses in conference play.
  • LRU outscored their opponents 156-32 (+124) in 16 games. La Roche has averaged an AMCC best 9.8 runs per game which also ranks 17th in the nation.
  • As a unit, the Redhawks pitchers have a 2.05 ERA (1st in AMCC, 3rd in NCAA). LRU owns the top four individual ERA's in the conference. Jake Seymour ranks first with a 0.52, Mike Nuzzo ranks second with a 1.13, Tristan Tinney ranks third with a 1.82 and Zack Oddi ranks fourth with a 2.14.
  • La Roche ranks tied for second in the country and first in the conference with a .367 team batting average.
  • Among all NCAA D-III teams, the Redhawks rank 8th in doubles per game (2.88), third in slugging percentage (.577), 17th in on-base percentage (.444) and 24th in home-runs/game (1.12)

  • In conference play, Jay Novak ranks tied for first in the conference with 24 RBI and teammate Austin Hoffman ranks third with 23.
  • Hoffman, Novak and Urban are tied for second in the conference with 12 extra-base hits a piece.
  • Jake Seymour was named the AMCC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career on May 3rd.

Medaille News and Notes

  • Medaille was the only team in the conference to go winless in conference play at 0-14.
  • The Mavericks first win of the season came in the AMCC play-in game over #8 seed Hilbert. Medaille defeated the Hawks in a 12 inning thriller. The Mavericks scored three runs in the top of the 12th to secure the win.
  • Jordeyn Lewis leads the team in batting average (.417), hits (25), doubles (6) and triples (2). The leadoff batter has scored a team-high 17 runs.
  • Patrick Whelan is the Mavericks best power hitter. Whelan has a team-high 19 RBI, nine more than the next best. He also has five home-runs, a .412 batting average and an .843 slugging percentage.
  • The rest of the Mavericks lineup is batting below .275. 
  • Medaille has been outscored 180-61 in fifteen games this season.
  • On the mound, Medaille has an AMCC worst 11.67 team ERA.
