Preview: Baseball Hosts Pitt Bradford on Senior Day

The La Roche University baseball team will host Pitt Bradford on Saturday, May 1st in their final regular season doubleheader. The Redhawks ten seniors (Austin Hoffman, Jay Novak, Mike Nuzzo, Philip Pieto, Jake Seymour, Jason Swope, Tristan Tinney and Dylan Urban) will be recognized in a brief pregame ceremony beginning at 12:30 p.m. Game one will start at 1:00 p.m.

La Roche News and Notes

  • The Redhawks clinched their seventh straight regular season conference title on Wednesday in a split with Alfred State. LRU has won eight of the last nine AMCC regular season championships.
  • La Roche suffered their first loss of the season in game two against Alfred State. La Roche's top six batters went 2-24 in game two.
  • Heading into Wednesday doubleheader against Alfred State, LRU boasted an NCAA D-III best .382 batting average. In Wednesday's split, the Redhawks batted 11-57 (.193), their worst two game stretch of the season.
  • The Redhawks rank eighth in the country in team ERA (2.34), third in win-loss percentage (.929), 11th in fielding percentage (.976), 24th in scoring (9.4 runs/game), and 21st in home runs per game (1.14).
  • Sophomore Nathan Stutz leads the AMCC with a .452 batting average. Stutz went 3-for-4 and tied his career-high with three RBI in game two vs. Alfred State.
  • Senior Jake Seymour is a perfect 4-0 on the season and owns a 0.66 ERA (1st in AMCC, 10th in NCAA) in 27.0 IP.
  • Senior Austin Hoffman leads the team in extra base hits with twelve (seven doubles and five homeruns). His five HR rank third in the AMCC.
  • Senior Philip Pieto has two homeruns, two doubles and seven RBI in his last four games.
  • Junior Zack Oddi has pitched three complete games and is a perfect 3-0. His 2.14 ERA ranks fifth in the conference.
  • Senior Mike Nuzzo has a 2-0 record with one save. He has a 1.29 ERA (3rd in AMCC, 37th in NCAA) and 8.36 strikeouts/nine-innings (8th in AMCC).
  • Dual threat senior Tristan Tinney is 3-0 and owns a 2.41 ERA (7th in AMCC). Tinney's 10.13 strikeouts/nine-innings ranks third in the conference.

Pitt Bradford News and Notes

  • The Panthers are 5-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play this season. UPB is currently tied for seventh in the conference standings.
  • The last time Bradford played was on April 24 in a doubleheader split with Pitt Greensburg.
  • In conference games, Bradford ranks eighth in batting average (.240), seventh in runs (57), seventh in RBI (54) and last in hits (85).
  • Senior Samuel Dreistadt leads the Panthers in hits (25), RBI (15), extra base hits (8) and batting average (.446).
  • On the mound, junior Alex Miles leads UPB with a 2.88 ERA. In 25.0 innings pitched, her has 20 K's and seven walks. Reid Tarnowski has pitched the most innings on the team (26.1) and owns a 5.81 ERA.
  • As a unit, Bradford has a 7.07 ERA (7th in AMCC)
  • The Panthers most impressive wins of the season were both over Penn St. Behrend. They defeated the Lions 13-2 on April 7th and 9-8 on April 19th.
