Five Redhawks Earn AMCC All-Conference Honors

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – La Roche University women's soccer had five players earn AMCC All-Conference honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

The Redhawks concluded the season with a 6-8-3 overall record and a 4-3-2 mark in AMCC play. La Roche earned a spot in the AMCC Tournament as the fifth seed, but the season ended at the hands of fourth seeded Mt. Aloysius.

For their success on the season, five players earned AMCC Third Team All-Conference status.

 

#2 Kiki Nemchek – Freshman

Nemchek was an instant impact player on the defensive side for La Roche in her first season donning the red and black.

Nemchek ended the season with a pair of goals and an assist, taking 10 shots with seven being placed on goal.

From a defensive standpoint, Nemchek was instrumental in helping the Redhawks to eight shutouts on the season.

 

#7 Alexis Nudds – Senior

Nudds played all over the field for La Roche in 2023, but her offensive ability was her highlight.

Nudds concluded the season with seven goals to lead the team, 12th most in the AMCC. She secured a hat trick on the year as well, scoring three goals in an 11-0 win over Wells.

Nudds tacked on three assists to her stat sheet, helping her conclude the season with 17 total points, also the most on the team.

She took 49 shots in 2023, also a team high and of those shots, 27 were on target, also a team best.

 

#8 Julianna Hornikel – Sophomore

The Redhawks sophomore goalkeeper earned her second consecutive AMCC All-Conference nod after a fantastic year between the pipes.

Hornikel started all 17 games in 2023 and put together a half season's worth of shutouts with eight, leading the AMCC. At one point, she had five consecutive shutouts and held opponents scoreless for over 500 minutes of game time.

Hornikel halted 64 of 91 shots that came her way on the year, ending 2023 with a 1.77 goals against average and a .703 save percentage.


#18 Alexandra Mecchia – Senior

The senior forward had a fantastic season for La Roche, leading the front line of the team.

Mecchia put together a career best seven assists in 2023, which led the team and was T-6th best in the AMCC.

Mecchia also contributed a pair of goals on the year, which led her to a season point total of 11.

Mecchia's 42 shots on the year placed her second on the team, placing 20 on the frame, third most for the Redhawks.

 

#22 Olexia Johnson – Senior

The third senior to earn AMCC All-Conference honors for La Roche, Johnson was a key component to the Redhawks defense in 2023.

Johnson was the leader of the defense for La Roche, being flanked by a pair of freshman and a sophomore.

Johnson's leadership helped La Roche to eight shutouts on the season, including a program record five consecutive shutouts.
