Redhawks Survive Scare From Mounties 58-52, Advance To AMCC Championship

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball survived a scare from #5 seed Mt. Aloysius and advanced to the AMCC Championship behind a huge fourth quarter, defeating the Mounties 58-52.


It was back and forth early in the first quarter with the teams trading scores, but by the 5:29 remaining mark, the Redhawks found themselves down 12-8.


Over the final half of play in the first, La Roche used a 9-4 stretch to take a 17-16 lead heading into the second quarter.


The second quarter was all Mt. Aloysius, outscoring the Redhawks 16-9, putting La Roche behind 32-26 at the half.


Out of the locker room, the Redhawks used the first 7:02 of play to trim the deficit to 38-36, but the Mounties countered with a 5-0 run to open their largest lead, and took an eventual 43-38 edge into the fourth.


La Roche locked in to open the fourth quarter, using a much needed 9-0 run to open a 47-43 lead.


Mt. Aloysius would turnaround with a 9-4 run to regain the lead at 52-51 with 1:34 left.


Despite having their backs against the wall, the Redhawks put together a 7-0 run the remainder of the quarter to survive and advance.


For the game, the Redhawks shot 33.3% (21-for-63) from the floor and 3-for-20 (15%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 13-for-20 (65%).


On the other side, the Mounties went on to shoot 46.2% (24-for-52) from the field, 4-for-21 (19%) from deep and missed their only foul shot of the game.
Three Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with Jazmine Dunn leading the way.

Dunn put together a game-high 24-point performance, alongside seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Makayla Abram followed with 14 points, while Dasja Anderson netted 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

La Roche moves into the AMCC Championship game and faces #2 Penn State Behrend, tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. inside the Kerr Fitness Center.
