Redhawks Make It Six Straight, Take Sole Possession Of First In AMCC With 85-69 Win Over Pioneers

ALFRED, N.Y. – La Roche men's basketball avenged an early season conference loss to Alfred State on Saturday, taking down the Pioneers 85-69, taking sole possession of first place in the AMCC.

The Redhawks were on fire offensively in the first half, scoring 46 points, shooting nearly 55% from the floor.

La Roche took control from the opening tip, starting the game on a 14-2 run in the first 3:41.

The closest Alfred State came in the half was seven points, 23-16 at the 10:26 mark, but the Redhawks quickly regained the double-digit edge, as La Roche took a 46-33 lead into the locker room.

Out of the break, La Roche again had a quick surge, opening with a 13-2 run in the first 6:36 to grow a lead of 58-35.

From that point on, the lead never fell below 13 points and the Redhawks sealed what would be their sixth consecutive victory.

For the game, La Roche finished the night going 29-for-59 (49.2%) from the floor and 8-for-22 (36.4%) from three. From the foul line, they capitalized on 19 of 21 attempts (90.5%).

On the other side, the Pioneers finished 27-for-65 (41.5%) from the field, 7-for-29 (24.1%) from deep, while going 8-for-15 (53.3%) from the foul line.

La Roche distributed the wealth once again, as nine players hit the score sheet for the second consecutive game and three players reached double figures.

For the third game in a row, Bryce Epps led the way, this time with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor.

Dominic Elliott was strong in the paint, dropping 19 points on 7-for-8 shooting to go alongside six rebounds.

Off the bench, Trey Oyler hit for 12 points on 3-for-4 shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

The Redhawks return home on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they host Mt. Aloysius looking to avenge another early AMCC loss. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.
