Alliance, OH - Baseball took to the road to face off with the Raiders a day early in the effort to beat the rain forecasted for tomorrow, and the decision was made to play two seven inning contests. The Redhawks were able to come out of the game going 1-1 on the day.
The Raiders took an early four run lead, scoring three of those four runs in the second inning. Nathan Stutz came out in the top of the fourth inning and hit his fourth home run of the season. This gave him one RBI and one hit for the game.
In the top of the seventh inning the Redhawks tried to make an effort to come back. Ben Dottle singled up the third base line, pushing Josh Dreyer over home plate. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to secure the win and La Roche ended the first game of the double header with a loss of 5-2.
Zack Oddi did all of the pitching and faced 25 batters during his innings on the mound. He threw 69 pitches, and 52 were strikes.
The second game of the match up, things were a little more intense. Going into the seventh inning and the Raiders and the Redhawks were at a stalemate; there were no runs on the board for either team.
The excitement kept to itself until the top of the ninth inning. The Redhawks were the first on the board.
Justin Stancovich paid Simpson right back, and hit a homerun to right center field, scoring two more runs for La Roche along the way. This was Stancovich's second home run of the season.
The Riders tried to make a comeback and scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, but they couldn't catch the Redhawks.
LRU came home with a 3-1 win in the second game.
Vargon threw six innings and out of 61 pitches, 40 were strikes.
Murphy came in to finish up the game and he faced 10 batters and dished out 31 pitches; 23 were strikes.
THe Redhawks play their first game at home on Sunday, against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
