Redhawks Season Closes In AMCC Tournament First Round

ERIE, Pa. – La Roche volleyball traveled to Penn State Behrend for the second time in five days to face the Lions, this time in the AMCC Tournament. Unfortunately for the sixth seeded Redhawks, it was the host three seed coming out on top, 3-0.

Set one was close, but fell in favor of Behrend, 25-20.

La Roche saw itself lead early, 6-3, but a 7-2 run countered to give the Lions a lead of 10-8.

The red and black pushed back to even the score at 13-13 and a few points later, were down just one, 16-15.

A 5-1 run by the hosts opened a five-point edge, but the Redhawks again trimmed the deficit to 21-19.

The Lions would close the set taking four of the last five points.

Behrend started the second set on a roll, storming ahead to a 10-2 lead and not long after moved to 13-6.

Once again, La Roche crawled back in, trimming the deficit to as little as three at 13-10 and 15-12, but it was the closest it'd come, falling 25-20 for the second straight set.

The third set saw the Redhawks, like set one, open up with a 5-2 lead, but once again, the Lions would turn things around to lead 14-9 just shy of the midway point.

La Roche made an effort to come within two at 14-12, and after falling back down by five at 18-13, battled back to make it a 20-19 score.

Unfortunately, a 5-1 run closed the match and ended the season for the red and black.

Kylie Fehlman led the Redhawks offensively with eight kills on the night, adding a solo block and four assisted blocks to the stat sheet.

Kalli Grine followed with five kills, five digs, one solo block and four assisted blocks.

The fantastic careers of Makenzie Kerkan and Quinn Hughes as Redhawks concluded with 12 digs for Kerkan to lead the team and four kills for Hughes.

La Roche ends the 2024 season with an 11-11 overall mark and its 10th straight postseason appearance.

While 2025 will be without Hughes and Kerkan, every other member of the 2024 roster is eligible to return and the future remains bright for the red and black.
