Redhwks Dominant In 3-0 Sweep Of Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball welcomed Carlow on Wednesday night an after a tough first set, dominated sets two and three to clinch its second straight sweep, 3-0.

Set one was the closest of the three sets with the Redhawks coming out on top 26-14.

The early stage of the set was a battle, with neither team leading by more than three points.

Sitting at 12-10 in favor of the red and black, La Roche sparked to open a 19-11 lead, the largest of the opening stanza.

However, the Celtics would battle back, scoring 13 of the next 18 points to tie the match 24-24, but the Redhawks settled down to take the final two points and the 1-0 lead.

Set two saw Carlow hold the early 4-3 lead, but from that point, La Roche came through with nine of the next 10 points to hold a 12-5 edge.

The Celtics crawled back in with six of the next eight points to trim the deficit to 14-11, but it was the red and black who dominated down the stretch, scoring 11 of the final 16 in the set to win 25-15 and go up 2-0.

The final set was again dominated by the Redhawks, this time opening up an 8-1 lead quickly.

Carlow again cut the margin down to 10-7, but again La Roche sparked to regain an 18-8 edge and sealed the victory with another 25-15 set victory.

Kalli Grine put together a career night on the offensive side, finishing with 11 kills, no errors and a career high .478 hitting percentage. Grine also added five digs, one solo block and three assisted blocks on the night.

Megan Bologna followed with seven kills, hitting .294 for the match.

Mackenzie Kerkan led the defensive side with 17 kills to go with her three service aces, followed by Brooke Bednarski who ended the match with 11 and a double-double, contributing 21 assists.

La Roche picked up four solo blocks and 16 block assists as a team, including one solo block and six assisted blocks by Kylie Fehlman.

The Redhawks have four games left, three of which are on the road. Alfred State is next on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. from Alfred, N.Y.
