Redhawks Drop Five Set Match To Mounties

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball was right back on the floor Tuesday night to open AMCC play against Mt. Aloysius, but in the end, it was the Mounties overcoming a 2-1 match deficit to take down the Redhawks, 3-2.

Set one saw the closest finish of the five sets, as Mt. Aloysius opened the match with a 25-20 win.

La Roche trailed 4-1 in the early stages, but would take the lead at 6-5, which would be its only of the set.

With the score tied 11-11, the Mounties used a 7-1 run to open an 18-12 edge, never allowing the lead to drop below three in route to the win.

Set two was the Redhawks turn to light up the scoreboard, evening the match 1-1 with a 25-18 set victory.

The red and black saw themselves down by a slight 6-4 margin early and flipped the set with a 5-0 run to take the lead.

It was a lead that would never be relinquished as La Roche would cruise to the win.

Set three saw the Redhawks storm ahead, jumping out to an 11-3 lead.

The closest the set came was within three points at 17-14 and 22-19, but the red and black led throughout to move ahead 2-1 in the match with a 25-19 win.

The fourth set once again saw La Roche forcing the issue early on, leading 7-5 through 12 points.

A 9-3 run opened a 14-10 Mountie lead and then later on a 9-1 run by Mt. Aloysius opened the Redhawks deficit to 23-13 and the Mounties closed the set with a 25-15 win and force a deciding set.

Unfortunately, for La Roche, the deciding fifth set was entirely in favor of Mt. Aloysius, winning 15-4 to close the match.

Kylie Fehlman highlighted the offense with 16 kills, hitting a strong .387% on the night.

Megan Bologna followed with nine kills, while Quinn Hughes and Kalli Grine both chipped in seven.

Mackenzie Kerkan led the defensive side with 20 digs, followed by Grine with 18 digs and four total blocks. Brooke Bednarski ended the night with a double-double, dishing out 37 assists and reeling in 11 digs.
Bologna and Emma Kaufman both contributed double-digit digs with 14 and 12 respectively, while Fehlman added six total blocks.

The Redhawks return to the floor on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they welcome Pitt-Bradford for a 1 p.m. opening serve.
