GROVE CITY, Pa. – La Roche volleyball concluded Saturday's tri-match at Grove City College against Thiel. The Redhawks were unable to get past the Tomcats, falling 3-1.
Set one saw La Roche overcome a slow start, pushing past the Tomcats by a final of 25-21.
The Redhawks saw themselves fall behind early and it stayed that way past the mid-point of the set, 16-7.
Still behind 17-9, the red and black flipped a switch, outscoring Thiel 16-4 the rest of the way for their lone set victory of the game.
Set two saw La Roche again fall behind early, 5-1, but would pull within a pair at 10-8.
From that point on, the Tomcats rattled off 12 of the next 16 points to blow the set open, evening the match 1-1 with a 25-16 win.
In set three, the Redhawks fell behind slightly at 5-3, but a 5-0 run gave them the early edge at 8-5 and held the lead until a 4-0 Thiel run made it 14-12 after it was 12-10 in favor of the red and black.
A few points later, the score was even at 17-17, but the Tomcats rolled at the end, scoring eight of the final 10 points to win 25-19 and go up 2-1.
Set four was all Thiel, stiffling La Roche en route to a 25-10 win to close the match.
Kalli Grine led the way offensively with eight kills, while Quinn Hughes added seven and Kylie Fehlman had six.
Mackenzie Kerkan was the lone Redhawk in double figures for digs with a game-high 25. Brooke Bednarski came through with 21 assists, falling just one dig shy of her second double-double of the say, as she had nine digs.
The road stretch contines for La Roche, as it readies for a pair of matches on Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Bethany at 6 p.m. and host Geneva at 8 p.m.
