GROVE CITY, Pa. – La Roche volleyball continued its road trip with neutral site, tri-match action at Grove City College. The Redhawks opened the day with a 10 a.m. matchup against RIT, falling to the Tigers by a final of 3-1.
Set one was down to the wire, as RIT brought home a 25-23 victory to go up 1-0.
The Redhawks saw themselves fall behind early, 8-0, but were able to counter with five stright points to narrow the margin to 8-5.
As the set went on, the Tigers would reopen seven-point leads, including 17-10 just past the midway point.
La Roche still saw itself down 20-14 a few points later and exploded with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the match, 21-20.
However, RIT would settle back in, scoring five of the final seven points to take the opening set.
Set two saw the Redhawks take their only set of the match, winning 25-22.
After falling behind 4-2 in the early stages, La Roche would tie the set briefly, then saw themselves trailing until making the game even 15-15 at the midway point.
The Tigers would work to reopen a two-point edge, but despite trailing 21-19, the Redhawks reeled off six of the final seven points, with the help of three RIT attack errors to even the match 1-1.
Set three was another quick start for the Tigers, jumping ahead 4-1, but La Roche quickly tied the set at 5-5 and briefly took the lead 8-7.
RIT would storm back to go ahead and would eventually open a 20-14 lead.
The red and black battled back, scoring 10 of the next 14 points to even the score 24-24, but the Tigers picked up back-to-back kills to win 26-24 and go ahead 2-1.
Set four was the first time La Roche charged ahead, leading 7-1 after starting the set up 6-0.
Just shy of the midway point, the Redhawks held a 14-9 lead, but the tides unfortunately turned in favor of RIT, who rattled off 16 of the final 19 points, including runs of 4-0 and 9-0 to take the final set 25-17.
Megan Bologna led the way offensively with eight kills, while Kylie Fehlman and Brooke Bednarski each had six.
Two players hit double digits in digs, including Mackenzie Kerkan with 14 and Bednarski who picked up 13 to go alongside 18 assists, earning her third double-double of the year.
Blocking was huge for the red and black, picking up three solo blocks and 22 block assists, led by Kylie Fehlman with 10 total blocks, and four from both Quinn Hughes and Kalli Grine.
One more match awaits La Roche today, this time against Thiel at 2 p.m.
