
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball hosted Allegheny on Wednesday night for non-conference action, but in the end it was the Gators getting the best of the Redhawks, 3-0.
Set one started the way of the Redhawks, opening a 4-2 lead early and then the score bounced around until it reached 9-9.
A few points later, the score remained tied, now at 13-13, but a 5-0 Allegheny run opened the lead and the Gators would move to take the opening set, 25-19.
The second set was one La Roche had to put on the back burner, falling behind 11-2 and then by as much as 15 at 22-7, as Allegheny took a 2-0 lead with a 25-11 victory.
The third set again saw the Redhawks fall behind early, 6-2, but the red and black pushed the issue, sitting only one point back down the line at 13-12.
However, the Gators would respond with eight of the next 10 points to open a 21-14 lead and finish the night with 25-19 set win.
Junior Megan Bologna led La Roche offensively with five kills, while four others chipped in three on the night.
In the assist box, freshman Brooke Bednarski led the team with 11.
Fifth Year Mackenzie Kerkan had 11 digs defensively, while senior Quinn Hughes had four total blocks and junior Kalli Grine had three.
The Redhawks conclude the early season home stand on Saturday, Sept. 14 when they welcome Bethany, Carlow and Lycoming for a quad match. The court will be split into two seperate courts and La Roche will square off against Carlow at 10 a.m. and Lycoming at 12 p.m. Game times are subject to change depending on length of the matches.
