Redhawks Drop Road Contest at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Oh. - Women's volleyball dropped their 8th straight match tonight on the road against the John Carroll Blue Streaks three sets to one to fall to 4-11 on the season. During their eight game slide, the Redhawks have took on some very tough competition. Of the eight teams La Roche played, six have winning records (three of which have three loses or less this season). Tonight's match also marks the Redhawks final non-conference game of the season. 

La Roche came out hot, taking a 5-1 lead to start the first set behind Ingrid Spear's two blocks. The Redhawks held that lead late into the first and were up 18-15. The teams exchanged blows but ultimatley, the Blue Streaks came out on top 28-26.

John Carroll kept the momentum heading to the second set and came out with a 5-1 lead. They finished the set on an 11-4 run to go up 2-0 in the match. 

In the third set, JCU once again took a comanding lead to start (6-1) forcing the Redhawks to play catch-up the remainder of the set. La Roche was able to close the gap to bring the set within one, but the Blue Streaks pulled it out in the end to win the match in straight sets.

LEADING THE ATTACK: Junior right side hitter Reilee Bradford led La Roche with 10 kills while posting an efficient .208 hitting percentage which also led the team. It's the second highest number of kills she has recorded in a match this season and ties the second highest count for a single match in her career.

SET EM' UP: Senior setter Bailey McDonald led the Redhawks with 20 assists on the night. McDonald has now recorded 20 or more assists in six matches this season (5 of which have occurred in the last 6 games). In her junior season, she had one such performance. McDonald currently ranks 5th in the conference in total assists (250). 

BACK ROW PLAY: Three Redhawks recorded 12 digs on the evening, two of which have been previously mentioned (Bradford, McDonald & Senior setter Erin Connor). It is the first time this season three players tied for the game-high in the statistical category. 

AT THE LINE: Junior middle hitter Ingrid Spear led the Redhawks with three blocks in the match. She has recorded multiple blocks in 12 out of 15 matches this season. Spear currently leads the AMCC in total blocks with 22, six more than the next highest player (Alexis Ray, Pitt Bradford: 16). 

NEXT UP: Women's volleyball begin their conference schedule this weekend at the Mt. Aloysius Volleyball tournament on Saturday September 28th.
