Redhawks Fall to Pitt-Bradford, Can Clinch Tournament Berth With Victory on Wednesday

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-22) match to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks can clinch a tournament berth with a victory in one of their next two matches.

Pitt-Bradford opened set 1 on a 9-2 run forcing Coach Bajuszik to burn an early timeout. The Panthers extended the lead to 14-5 including a perfect 6-0 on kill attempts to force another Redhawks' timeout. The Redhawks put together a decent comeback in the first set but fell 25-15.

La Roche came out strong in set 2 climbing ahead 9-3. Laura Nath opened the game with a kill and Hannah Scott followed with a service ace. Pitt-Bradford struggled at the net after opening the match with a near perfect attack performance. The Panthers gave away five of the first ten points through errors to allow the early lead. Pitt-Bradford cut the gap to three but the Redhawks answered with kills from Nath, Hayley Ebersole and Janet Aland to take a 18-12 advantage. Pitt-Bradford responded down the stretch and closed the set on a 13-2 run.

La Roche was forced to call a timeout early in set 3 after opening with a five point deficit. The Redhawks ran off four straight points including a pair of kills by Nath. Pitt-Bradford however scored the next five and went ahead 17-12. The Redhawks put together a late comeback but the Panthers held on for the three set sweep.

Laura Nath finished with 12 kills while Sarah Storino and Maddie Gestrich combined for 28 assists. Hannah Scott had 16 digs and Christine Aland 3.5 blocks.

The Redhawks will travel to Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday for an AMCC Conference match. The Mounties have lost three straight.
