PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the AMCC conference after beating Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 22-15, 25-12) on Tuesday night.
La Roche started off strong with a powerful win in the first set. They held a lead throughout the entire game and played to a .257 kill percentage. The Redhawks were a huge force with 13 kills while committing just four errors.
The Redhawks came out swinging with 11 kills in the second set; Laura Nath opened the game with a kill and the Redhawks never relinquished the lead.
Pitt-Greensburg took the third set (25-22). Marissa Leonard led the Bobcats with 7 kills. While La Roche struggled committing seven errors to their seven kills.
The fourth set La Roche came out strong and jumped to a 5-1 lead. Laura Nath and Christine Aland were a force together, Nath contributed 7 of the 14 kills and Aland finished with 2 kills, all within the last five points of the game.
Christine Aland and Haley Ebersole were a big threat at the net providing the Redhawks with 5 huge blocks.
Nath lead La Roche with 19 kills, Ebersole contributed 6 and Toni Torchia added 5 in the match. Sarah Storino led the Redhawks with 27 assists and Maddie Gestrich contributed 11.
Hannah Scott added to her impressive dig total with her team-high 22. Torchia and Nath tied with 10 each.
La Roche also dominated the serving battle; Storino and Gestrich each had 3 aces while Torchia had 2.
