Redhawks Take Road to Defeat Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, PA – The La Roche women's volleyball team improved to 2-3 on the season and 2-0 against Waynesburg after defeating the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night. The Redhawks fell in the first set before winning three straight for a 3-1 victory (25-27, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21).

La Roche could not close out a back and forth game one despite holding two straight game points. The Redhawks rebounded with several long runs in game two. Waynesburg led 10-5 but La Roche answered shortly after a Coach Bajuszik timeout. The Redhawks won the serve back and scored eight straight points including two on Anna Dietz kills. The Yellow Jackets regained the lead but a series of attack errors and a Toni Torchia kill ended the second set.

The third set was never in jeopardy but the Redhawks needed another comeback to win game four. Waynesburg opened with five straight points but La Roche used a 10 point swing for a 16-11 lead. The Yellow Jackets took advantage of some La Roche mistakes and chipped away to take a 21-20 lead. La Roche's upperclassmen however huddled the team up and closed with five straight points and the victory.

Dietz led La Roche with 13 kills while Lara Nath had 10 and Torchia 9. Maddie Gestrich and Sarah Storino combined for 41 assists.
