
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche women's tennis traveled to meet Carlow in AMCC play on Sunday evening, but were unable to get past the Celtics, falling 5-2.
The Redhawks opened the day with a strong showing in #1 doubles, winning 6-2 behind Teresa Munoz Torrado and Danielle Dominick. Carlow would take #2 doubles by a final of 6-1, with #3 going to the Celtics by way of no match.
Torrado and Dominick remained on track in #1 and #2 singles respectively.
Torrado fell behind in the set, falling 6-3, but stormed back in set two, prevailing 6-4 to force a tiebreak set.
In the tiebreak set, Torrado was able to keep the momentum, pulling through with a 10-7 set win and the #1 singles match victory.
Dominick, in #2 singles, started the opposite way, downing her opposition 6-1 in the opening set. The second set was a battle, ending 7-5 as Carlow forced yet another tiebreak set.
Dominick was locked in for set three, taking the tiebreak 10-5 to put La Roche up 2-0 in sigles play.
In #3 singles, Finley Hohn gave it her all, nearly giving the red and black a third victory.
Hohn opened the match with a strong 6-4 set win, but that score would be reversed in favor of the Celtics in set two, forcing a third tiebreak set in singles play.
This time, it was Carlow coming out on top, as Hohn battled, but fell 10-4 in the deciding set.
#4 singles went the way of the Celtics, 6-0, 6-0 and #5 and #6 singles did as well by way of forfeits.
The Redhawks return to the courts on Friday, Oct. 4 when they travel to St. Vincent. Opening serve is set for 4 p.m.
