
McCANDLESS, Pa. - The La Roche University women's tennis team opens their 2021 season on Saturday, March 20th in a conference match at Medaille College. Games are set to begin at 4:00 p.m at the Village Glen Tennis Club. No spectators will be permitted.
Head Coach Stephanie Smith will be entering her second season at the helm of the program. In her first season (2019), Smith led the Redhawks to three wins, including two over conference opponents Penn St. Behrend and Pitt Greensburg. In the 2019 season, LRU had an overall record of 3-8, going 2-6 in conference play.
LRU tennis will be returning five starters to the lineup, including three seniors, a junior and a sophomore. The program also welcomes two freshmen for a total of seven student-athletes.
Senior Rochelle Selzer will be entering her fourth season with the Redhawks in 2021. Her freshman season, she was named to the AMCC All-Conference Second Team. That season she went 7-1 at second singles. Since then, she has gone 6-12 playing first singles. At doubles, Selzer owns an overall record of 13-15.
Senior Allie Mroczkowski will be entering her third season with the Redhawks in 2021. Her first year with the team, she went 6-1 at sixth singles and was named to the AMCC All-Conference Second Team. Last season, Allie went 4-1 at fourth singles and 2-3 at third. She was a perfect 3-0 at fourth singles against AMCC opponents and a combined 5-2 in AMCC action. At doubles, Mroczkowski owns an overall record of 8-12.
Senior Jazmyn Davis will be entering her fourth season with the Redhawks in 2021. Last season, Davis went 3-3 overall at third singles and 2-3 overall at fourth singles. She went 2-2 at both third and fourth singles in conference play. At second doubles, she finished 5-6 overall and 4-4 in AMCC action.
Looking to continue on her freshman year success, sophomore Alexandra Jaksec will be returning for her second season with LRU. She went 6-3 overall and 4-2 in AMCC play at second singles, both winning percentages were top five in the conference. At first doubles, Jaksec was 6-5 overall and 4-4 in AMCC play. Also returning to the team for her second season is Junior Alena Matthew who played in every match in 2019.
The two newcomers to the team are freshman Isabella Lane and freshman Tess Hoffman. Lane was a two-time WPIAL Qualifier for Lower Burrell high school.
