GREENVILLE, Pa. – La Roche women's soccer opened the 2024 season in shutout fashion, taking down the Thiel Tomcats, 3-0 on the road.
Sophomore Finnleigh Gould was the star of the night, netting a hat-trick to give the Redhawks the victory.
Gould netted two goals in the first half, scoring at 15:46 and 32:33, with both being assisted by graduate student, Alexandra Mecchia.
With a 2-0 lead in the second half, Gould's final goal came unassisted at 68:46 to close the scoring.
The La Roche defense limited Thiel to eight shots in the game, four of which were on net. The Redhawks, on the other hand, had 20 shots, placing 11 on the frame.
Junior goalkeeper, Julianna Hornikel, earned the victory and saved the only shot she faced in 45 minutes of action. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Dominick played the second half, stopping all three shots that came her way.
On the offensive end, Gould led the team with six shots and four on goal, followed by Mecchia's five shots and three on goal.
La Roche now prepares for its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when the Redhawks welcome Waynesburg to the Baierl Athletic Complex for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
