Redhawks Women's Soccer Looks To Take Next Step In 2023

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's soccer is just a couple weeks away from kicking off the 2023 campaign and with eight starters returning from last year's team, the Redhawks are looking to take that next step in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

In 2022, La Roche battled to a 2-10-3 overall record, finishing 1-5-1 in the AMCC.

The record was not indicative of the play on the field for the Redhawks, as they fell in four of those 10 defeats by just a single goal, while a fifth loss came by two goals.

Senior forward Alexandra Mecchia and senior midfielder Alexis Nudds highlight the offense end for La Roche, as the two combined for nine goals on the season. Mecchia led the team with five, while Nudds added four.

Overall, the Redhawks bring back 80% of their goals scored, as those on the 2023 roster accounted for 12 of the 15.

The defensive end will look to improve from last season and limit the opposition who scored 36 goals during the 2022 season.

The entire backline is returning for La Roche and a pair of incoming freshmen will look to help bolster that line.

Third Team All-Conference goalkeeper Julianna Hornikel returns between the pipes, after completing her freshman campaign with a 2.32 goals against average and 159 saves made.

Regular season play for the Redhawks kicks off on Friday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. when they host Thiel at the Baierl Athletic Complex.
