Pitt-Bradford Gets Past Women's Soccer

The La Roche woman's soccer team dropped 3-2 conference game at Pitt Bradford on Saturday. The Redhawks led 1-0 at halftime but could not hold on for a victory.

Alondra Gonzalez scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Jessica Nakamura. Kayla Zolgus set up Kerri Phillis for the game's second goal. The team totaled 14 shots, but it was not enough to maintain the lead.

The Redhawks came out with determination in the first half. Both teams fought hard and had opportunities. La Roche kept fighting and earned the first goal. Nakamura cleared it over Bradford's defense, giving Gonzalez a one on one break away. Gonzalez took her time and and finished the ball into the back of the net in the fortieth minute. La Roche entered intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Jessica Welka pushed aside an early second half shot to preserve a one goal lead. La Roche continued to bring pressure and attack the Bradford net. Phillis came through in the fifty-fifth minute, taking a Zolgus thru ball and finishing it past the keeper. Bradford responded with a goal in the seventy-first minute. A short time later, La Roche fouled in the box to give Bradford a penalty kick. Bradford converted and tied it in the seventy-third minute. The Redhawks played hard but Bradford came through with a goal in the eighty-second minute, winning the game 3-2.

The Redhawks will come together on Sunday when they play a non-conference game at Alfred State.
