D'Youville Uses Counterattack to Defeat Women's Soccer

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 game to D'Youville on Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks fall to 2-7 and are still searching for their first conference win.

The Redhawks controlled possession throughout the first half. D'Youville's scoring chances all came on counterattacks, with Makenna Magee netting the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Jessica Welka made a sliding save to deny D'Youville in the thirtieth minute. Kylie Morder used her foot to save an open net in the thirty-eighth minute. Isabelle Orange subbed into goal and made a quick save before halftime.

The Redhawks needed Welka to make a breakaway save ten minutes into the second half. Piper Claypool nearly tied it, but her shot clipped the crossbar and out of play. D'Youville netted a second score in the sixtieth minute, and despite the Redhawks best effort, held on for the 2-0 victory.

La Roche outshot D'Youville 20-16 and Claypool had 8 shots.
