Grove City Upends La Roche Women's Soccer

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche College women's soccer team hosted Grove City on a beautiful evening at the Baierl Athletic Complex. Grove City tallied the game winner midway through the first half and earned a 4-0 victory.

The final score did not reflect how well the Redhawks played. In the first half, La Roche went stride for stride with the preseason PAC champions but they just could not find the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Jessica Welka made a big stop early and was aided by a Madison Petrakovich defensive save to deny an open net. The Redhawks had plenty of chances in the first half with Kerri Phillis and Alondra Gonzalez pressuring the Grove City keeper into tough saves.

The lone first half blemish came on a La Roche misstep in the twentieth minute.

The Redhawks fought their way through the second half, but Grove City pulled away with three second half goals. Two goals were scored off deflections and the third off a missplay.

Welka and Isabelle Orange combined for seven saves.

The Redhawks are back in action on Tuesday and will host Westminster in their final tune-up before AMCC play.
