PITTSBURGH, PA – Bethanie Moreschi scored a goal in the 88th minute and Carly Sorco made big save after big save as the Lady Redhawks (2-3-1) secured a 1-1 (2OT) tie with Westminster College on Wednesday evening.
The visiting Titans struck to take a 1-0 lead after 77 minutes of scoreless soccer. It looked as if La Roche was headed for a loss until Moreschi's goal tied it at 1-1. Alex Rogers took advantage of a corner kick and sent a perfect cross to Moreschi who headed it past a diving Westminster goalkeeper. Westminster had numerous chances in both overtime periods but Sorco made 2 big stops to preserve the tie.
Moreschi scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and registered 3 shots while Jessica Greco added 2 shots. The Lady Redhawks defensive unit had a strong game and Sorco made 13 saves in 110 minutes in her first collegiate start.
The Lady Redhawks return to action tomorrow when they host Penn State Beaver. The Lions come into the contest losers of five straight games.
