Championship Bound: #1 Redhawks Cruise To Title Game Defeating #4 Hilbert

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Top seeded La Roche women's lacrosse opened the AMCC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon and continued its banner season, defeating #4 Hilbert, 13-3.

It was all Redhawks in the opening half, outscoring the Hawks 3-0 in the first quarter and 4-0 in the second quarter.

In the first quarter, Kinsey Sperling scored the first goal of the game, off an assist by Jasey Reiser. Jade Fuccaro would follow, then it was Sperling's turn to assist Reiser.

The second quarter saw Sperling help on three more goals, two of which were scored by Alecia D'Urso and one by Kayla Mull. Reiser scored the other in the quarter as the red and white took a 7-0 lead into the half.

Out of the break, both teams traded goals a single goal in the third, starting with a free position goal from Brooklyn Wongg, making it 8-0, followed by the first for the Hawks.

It was the fourth quarter where La Roche found the back of the net five times and put the running clock into effect.

Hilbert scored the initial goal of the final stanza, then Fuccaro began the five unanswered stretch, just 38 seconds later.

Sperling did even more damage in the final quarter, setting up Mull and Reiser for goals, while also scoring two of her own, assisted by Reiser and D'Urso.

Mt. Aloysius would then make it 13-8, then the Redhawks rattled off their final three goals of the game by Nemcek (assisted by Sperling), Reiser from Nemcek and capped off by another from Reiser, assisted by D'Urso.

The shot totals ended in favor of La Roche, outshooting Mt. Aloysius, 31-21 and 23-16 in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Jualianna Hornikel came through with 13 saves in the game, facing 16 shots.

La Roche now moves into the AMCC Championship Game and will host #2 Mt. Aloysius. Game time on Saturday, May. 3 is slated for 1 p.m.
