PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's lacrosse celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon and in the end, took down Alfred State, 15-3, improving to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in AMCC play.
The first quarter was all Redhawks, peppering the Pioneers for seven goals to build a 7-1 lead.
Jade Fuccaro and Kinsey Sperling connected for the first two goals of the game in the first 1:51 of play, then at 10:51, Jasey Reiser became the first player in program history to reach 100 career points with an unassisted goal.
Alfred State would score its lone goal after, then La Roche closed the scoring with a pair of Alex Mecchia goals and single goals by Kiki Nemcek and Alecia D'Urso, both assisted by Reiser.
The Redhawks would blank the Pioneers in the second quarter, adding four more tallies to go ahead 11-1.
Reiser connected with Fuccaro to start the scoring, then Sperling found the back of the net, assisted by Mecchia.
Mecchia would follow with a free position goal, then Nemcek closed the first half scoring with an unassisted goal.
Out of the break, Reiser found the back of the net again, assisted by Sperling and the only other goal scored came from Alfred State to make it 12-2 going into the fourth.
The Pioneers would open the scoring in the fourth to briefly remove the running clock, until Fuccaro became the second player in program history to reach the 100-point mark, at 10:53, putting the running clock back into effect.
Fuccaro would find the back of the net once more, assisted by D'Urso and D'Urso would close the scoring on another Reiser assist.
The shot total ended even at 26-26 and shots on goal were 22-16 in favor of the Redhawks.
Julianna Hornikel was remarkable in net, stopping 13 of 16 shots that came her way, while Nemcek led the team with five ground balls and six caused turnovers.
La Roche now begins a three-game road trip, starting on Tuesday, Apr. 8 when they travel to Mt. Aloysius. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
