Redhawks Fall Just Short In AMCC Semifinal

CRESSON, Pa. - La Roche women's lacrosse traveled to Mt. Aloysius for the AMCC Tournament Semifinals, but fell just short of the Mounties, 12–8.

The first quarter was even as the score at 1-1 through 15 minutes.

It took 10:27 for a goal to be scored and it was Jade Fuccaro doing the honors for the Redhawks to take a 1-0 lead.

Mount would respond 1:17 later to even the match 1-1.

In the second, the teams again traded goals, with Kiki Nemcek scoring from the free position at 9:26 to give La Roche the lead, but the Mounties answered with 6:43 to go to even the game again.

The Redhawks would go on to build a 4-2 lead as Jasey Reiser scored, assisted by Kinsey Sperling with the clock showing 4:09, then with two minutes remaining in the half, Sperling found Fuccaro.

Mount would score the final goal of the half with 10 seconds left, as La Roche took a 4-3 lead into the half.

Out of the break, the Mounties gained their first lead, scoring a pair of goals in the first 44 seconds to goal up 5-4.

Fuccaro scored her third of the game to tie it at 5-5, but again, Mount regained the edge at 6-5.

22 seconds after falling behind, the red and black evened the score with 7:12 remaining in the third as Tea Smith scored on an assist by Isabella Fittipaldo.

The Mounties would finish the third quarter with a goal at the 2:53 mark, but it would lead to what was a 6-0 run, as they would make the Redhawks fall behind 12-6.

Reiser would finish the scoring with a pair of free position goals in a 29 second span in the final two minutes.

The final shot total ended in favor of Mount, 29-18, with shots on goal also in its favor, 22-14.

Julianna Hornikel ended the night with 10 saves in the cage, adding a game high five ground balls.

Smith and Fuccaro led the team with five shots, while Smith and Reiser each had four on target.

Despite the defeat, it was an incredible season for the Redhawks. A young program in just its third full season, put together the first multi-win campaign and saw itself build a strong foundation for future success.
