Redhawks Fall To Mounties 12-8 In AMCC Clash

CRESSON, Pa. – La Roche women's lacrosse took to the road for the first time in AMCC play, but were unable to get past Mt. Aloysius, falling to the Mounties 12-8.

Mt. Aloysius opened the scoring 1:40 into the game, but after that it was a flurry from the Redhawks to take the lead.

Jade Fuccaro was the beneficiary of assists by Kinsey Sperling and Isabella Fittipaldo, as Fuccaro netted a pair of goals in 12 seconds to give La Roche a 2-1 edge.

Kiki Nemcek made it three unanswered at the 8:50 remaining mark, scoring unassisted as the lead sat at 3-1.

The Mounties would counter, scoring a pair of goals to even the game with 5:01 left in the first quarter.

La Roche took the lead 2:50 later as Tea Smith scored free position, but Mt. Aloysius countered with 50 seconds remaining to make it 4-4 going into the second.

Unfortunately for the Redhawks, the offensive was unable to pull through in the second, as the Mounties scored all three goals of the stanza to lead 7-4 at the half.

Both defenses locked in as the third quarter started, with only one goal being scored, by Mt. Aloysius as La Roche trailed 8-4 heading into the fourth.

The Mounties scored the first and third goals of the quarter, but the Redhawks received a third Fuccaro goal in between, scored free position.

Trailing 10-5, Nemcek did her best to lead La Roche back, scoring at 9:08 and 2:39 remaining to trim the deficit to 10-7.

Mount would respond with two goals at 2:02 and 1:39 remaining to up the edge back to five.

Nemcek posted the final tally of the game, her fourth of the night and third of the quarter with 1:08 left.

The shot totals were very even, as the Mounties outshot the Redhawks 26-25 and 21-19 in shots on goal.

Julianna Hornikel made nine saves in goal for La Roche on the night.

Nemcek was strong with a team high 10 shots and seven on goal, while adding in four caused turnovers. Fuccaro followed, placing all five of her shots on the cage.

La Roche's next matchup takes place on Saturday, Apr. 13 as the Redhawks stick to the road for a rematch against Wells. Faceoff is set for 11 a.m.
