
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's lacrosse opened AMCC play on Saturday afternoon facing off against Wells, but in the end of a back-and-forth matchup, the Express would come out on top 17-11.
The Redhawks were on fire early, scoring three goals in the opening 4:58.
Jade Fuccaro netted the first goal 30 seconds into the contest to make it 1-0.
After Wells would respond to make it 1-1, La Roche netted the next two goals, as Tea Smith and Kiki Nemcek found the back of the net, both assisted by Kinsey Sperling, making it 3-1.
The Express would counter with a pair of goals to tie the game 3-3, but the Redhawks bounced right back, taking a 5-3 lead behind two Fuccaro goals, one of which was assisted by Sperling.
Wells scored the final goal of the first as La Roche led 5-4.
In the second, the Redhawks regained a two goal edge when Reiser scored free position, making it 6-4, but the Express would open a two-goal lead of their own, scoring four unanswered to lead 8-6.
La Roche cut the edge to one with Reiser's second, assisted by Fittipaldo, but Wells answered just 11 seconds later.
The Redhawks would make it an 8-7 game at the half as Reiser scored her third of the quarter with 1:45 left, assisted by Smith.
Out of the break, Wells netted the first two goals to lead 10-7, but Sperling's response came with 6:55 in the quarter, assisted by Fittipaldo.
The Express would score three goals in the final 6:16, with Reiser's fourth of the day sandwiched in between, as Wells led 14-10 going into the fourth.
Sperling brought the score within three at the 12:31 remaining mark of the fourth to make it 14-11, but it would conclude the La Roche scoring as the Express got the final three tallies of the game.
Wells outshot the Redhawks in the game 44-20 and in shots on goal 34-15.
Julianna Hornikel did all she could in net, stopping 17 shots in the game, while also picking up a team high six groung balls.
Reiser had a team high seven shots and four shots on goal, while Sperling's four and Nemchek and Fuccaro's three followed.
La Roche returns to the field on Tuesday, Apr. 9 when it travels to Mt. Aloysius for its AMCC road matchup. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
