Women's Bowling Wraps Up Red Flash Invite

ALTOONA, Pa. – La Roche women's bowling placed 8th overall at the SFU Red Flash Invitational at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, PA. Sunday afternoon the team completed the final day of the three day competition.

Following the traditional three-day tournament format, Sunday's matches were organized into seeded bracket play and were competed as a trio of best-of-seven baker matches. 

The Redhawks first match of the day was a thriller against Division II opponent, Felician University. The Golden Tornadoes jumped out to a 2-0 start, taking down LRU in the first two games by a combined pin total of 325 to 268. Then, the Redhawks stormed back to win the next three games, 164-138, 172-122 & 193-161, an average margin of victory of 36 pins per game. The team's tied the sixth game with a 147 pins a piece. Felician won the seventh game 176-159 to send the match to overtime. The Golden Tornadoes would go on to win the final game 117-73 and the match 4.5 games to 3.5 games. The Redhawks produced a higher overall pin total, 1103-1069, a 157.6 per game average and bowled their best two games on the day in the match.

La Roche got their fourth win of the season over conference for Penn St. Altoona in their second match of the day. The teams were tied two games a piece through the first four games, the Redhawks holding a slight overall pin advantage, 528-527. LRU would go on to win the next two games, 155-114 and 143-126, taking the match four games to two. Women's bowling is 4-0 against the Lions this season. 

The final match of the day was a rematch with Felician University. The Redhawks managed to steal two of the first three games, but the Golden Tornadoes would win next three straight games and the match by a final score of 4-2.

NEXT UP: La Roche women's bowling will prepare for its first conference event of the season, as the Lady Redhawks will compete in AMCC Round Robin Saturday, February 1st and Sunday, February 2nd. Both days will be hosted by Penn State Behrend at Eastland Bowl.

Next weekend's round robin is the first of two AMCC regular season events that place all of the conference teams in head-to-head matches to determine seeding for the season-ending conference championships, which will happen from March 20th-22nd.
