La Roche Finishes Day 1 at Red Flash Invitational With Win Over Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. - La Roche women's bowling kicked off its participation in the Red Flash Invitational at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, PA Friday morning. The Saint Francis University hosted event runs from Friday, January 24th till Sunday the 26th, making it the longest tournament of the Redhawks season. 

LRU competed in four head-to-head five-game baker matches decided by total pinfall, taking on two non-conference opponents and two AMCC foes. 

In the first match against Morgan State (Baltimore, MD), the Redhawks dropped all five games and were defeated by a total pinfall of 808-619. La Roche's third and fourth games were their best, bowling a combined score of 276. 

The Lady Redhawks bowled their second highest score of the day in the fifth game against the Walsh University Cavaliers (North Canton, OH), winning by a slight three-point margin, 178-175. La Roche ultimately lost their second match to Walsh by a total pinfall of 879-691. 

The Redhawks bowled an identical score of 691 against Mt. Aloysius but the Mounties posted an 853 and won all five games. The Redhawks got within 8 pins of Mt. Aloysius in the second game of match, losing 193-185, LRU's highest single game score on the day. The Mounties have defeated La Roche in all six meetings this season. 

Women's bowling ended the day on a positive note with a win over conference opponent Penn St. Altoona. Through the first three games, La Roche held an extremely slim one-point advantage over the Lions, 334-333. Then, over the next two games the Redhawks outscored Altoona 291-221, going on to win 625-554. La Roche is 3-0 against Penn St. Altoona this season. 

NEXT UP: The Redhawks play Day Two of the Red Flash Invitational tomorrow, Saturday January 25th. Saturday's competition will feature traditional team format matches. Action begins at approximately 10:00 a.m.
