AMCC Women's Basketball Tournament Preview: Redhawks Seek Redemption

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball is set for AMCC Tournament action and will look to avenge last year's second place finish.

La Roche was unable to defend their three consecutive championships last season, but the Redhawks will look to regain the throne, making it four titles in five seasons and 11 of the last 14. 

 

La Roche ended the 2024-25 season 20-5 overall and 14-2 in AMCC play, marking the fifth consecutive season it has won 20 or more games.

La Roche begins play on Friday, Feb. 28 as the #2 seed and will face #3 Mt. Aloysius in the semifinals at 8 p.m.

The Mounties defeated Pitt-Bradford, 74-33, in the First Round to earn the right to play the Redhawks.

 

La Roche currently holds an 11-game winning streak against Mt. Aloysius, last falling to the Mounties on Jan. 31, 2018.

This year, the Redhawks defeated the Mounties, 73-51 on the road and then in the rematch, took down Mt. Aloysius, 80-52 at home.

Friday will mark the second straight semifinal between La Roche and Mt. Aloysius, with the Redhawks eeking out a 58-52 victory.

 

Should La Roche come out victorious on Friday, it will meet the winner of #1 seed Penn State Behrend and #4 Penn State Altoona.

The Redhawks ended the regular season sweeping fourth seeded Altoona, defeating the Lions, 67-56 on the road and 74-48 at home in the regular seaon finale.

On the other hand, top seeded Behrend got the best of La Roche, 74-60 and 83-61. It was also the Lions who ended the streak of three consecutive titles by the Redhawks, winning, 73-54.

Entering the tournament, bosts three double-digit scorers, led by Alexis Robison, averaging 14.4 points. Dasja Anderson follows averaging 12.9 points, while Jazmine Dunn is hitting for 11.6 per game.

Anderson also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.5 a game. Dunn also contributed 5.1 rebounds, as well as an AMCC leading 4.8 assists per game.

Defensively, J'La Kizart enters with an AMCC best three steals per game, while Dunn sits right behind at 2.7 per contest.
