Redhawks Cruise Past Mounties 80-52

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball closed a brief two-game home stand with its eighth straight win, defeating Mt. Aloysius, 80-52, sweeping the season series.

The opening quarter was back and forth, ending with the Redhawks holding a slight 18-16 edge.

It was the Mounties starting out with the edge, holding a 9-5 lead in the first three minutes of play and still held the lead, 11-10 with 4:11 to go.

The red and black would score eight of the final 13 to take the lead into the second.

In the second, La Roche's lead still sat at two, 22-20, in the first 2:10 of play, until an 7-1 run opened a 29-21 edge for the Redhawks.

The red and black continued to hit shots in the quarter and played lockdown defense, outscoring Mt. Aloysius, 21-10 in the stanza, taking a 39-26 lead into the half.

Out of the break, La Roche continued to build on its lead, upping it to 47-30 in the first four minutes of play.

With 2:44 remaining, the deficit was trimmed to 52-40 by the Mounties, but five of the final seven points went to the Redhawks, leading 57-42 going to the fourth.

The final quarter was dominated by the red and black, outscoring the visitors 23-10 to cruise to the victory.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 48.4% (31-for-64) from the floor and 11-for-22 (50%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 7-for-10 (70%).

On the other side, the Mounties went on to shoot 31.6% (18-for-57) from the field, 4-for-17 from deep (23.5%) and 12-for-18 (66.7%) from the foul line.

Five Redhawks ended the night in double figures, led by Alexis Robison.

Robison ended the night with 16 points, all in the first half, adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Kiyanna Dowling followed with 15 points behind five three-pointers, while Avina Norman contributed 12 points, five rebounds and four steals off the bench.

Dasja Anderson finished with a line of 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals and Makayle Abram hit for 10 points to go with six rebounds.

La Roche returns to the court Saturday Feb. 1 when they travel to Pitt-Bradford. Opening tip is slated for 4 p.m.
