
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball took on Carlow in the AMCC Game of the Week and pulled through in a hard fought 59-45 victory over the Celtics.
It was Carlow who jumped ahead in the first three minutes, leading 6-2 in the early stage of the first quarter.
The Redhawks responded with a 10-2 run to open a 12-8 lead and ultimately took a 16-12 lead into the second.
The Celtics again started the second quickly, with a 5-0 run to take the lead, but the red and black's response was that of a 10-1 run to regain a 26-18 edge.
Carlow scored the final four points of the quarter and at half, La Roche's lead sat at 26-22.
Over the final 5:45 of the opening 20 minutes, Carlow would outscore La Roche 17-5 and take a 44-39 lead into the half.
Out of the locker room, the Celtics would trim the deficit to 31-30 with 7:57 on the clock and at 6:12, Dasja Anderson scored her 1,000th career point to put the red and black up 34-30.
The rest of the way, the teams traded scores for the most part and the Redhawks led 41-35 going into the fourth.
Just before the midway point of the final quarter, La Roche led just 43-40, but a 6-0 run by the red and black pushed the needle to 49-40.
Over the final 3:53, the Redhawks allowed just two more field goals by the hosts and cruised to their sixth straight victory.
For the game, La Roche shot 43.1% (25-for-58) from the floor and 2-for-17 (11.8%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 7-for-13 (53.8%).
On the other side, the Celtics went on to shoot 31.7% (19-for-60) from the field, 6-for-22 (27.3%) from deep and went 1-for-3 (33%) from the stripe.
Three Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with Anderson leading the charge.
Anderson ended the night with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, moving her career point total to 1,005.
Jazmine Dunn followed with 16 points, five assists and five steals, while Makayla Abram secured a double-double with 10 points and 12 reboudns.
La Roche returns home on Saturday, Jan. 25 as they host Alfred State, looking to make it seven straight wins. Opening tip is set for 4 p.m
