
ALTOONA, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball began a two-game road swing on Saturday against Penn State Altoona and came out victorious for the fifth straight game, 67-56.
The opening quarter was all Redhawks in the first 7:24 of play, jumping out to a 10-4 lead.
La Roche continued to hold the lead throughout the remainder of the quarter and went into the second with a 15-10 lead.
The second quarter opened with Altoona getting an and-one to trim the deficit to 15-13 just 15 seconds in and three minutes into the quarter, the Lions took their first lead, 18-17.
The lead lasted just 1:10 as the red and black responded with a 4-0 spurt to move back ahead 21-18, but the hosts countered with its own run of 9-1 to move back ahead, 27-22, with 2:26 remaining in the half.
La Roche would score the final four points of the half and went into the break trailing, 27-26.
Out of the locker room, the Redhawks battled back to take the lead briefly, before the teams traded scores and with 6:21 left in the third, Altoona led 36-35.
La Roche got a 9-2 run in response and moved ahead by six, for the first time since the first quarter, 44-38 with the clock reading 2:21.
By the end of the quarter, the red and black pushed the margin up to double figures, leading 53-43 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, the teams traded scores over the first five-plus minutes and the Redhawks never let the lead come any closer than nine, as they finished off the fifth straight victory.
For the game, the Redhawks shot 42.4% (25-for-59) from the floor and 1-for-10 (10%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went a 16-for-25 (64%).
On the other side, the Lions went on to shoot 34.4% (21-for-61) from the field, 4-for-19 from deep (21.1%) and 10-for-11 (90.9%) from the foul line.
Two Redhawks ended the night in double figures, being led by Alexis Robison.
Robison netted 19 points and five rebounds, while Dasja Anderson followed with 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
La Roche returns to the court Wednesday, Jan. 22 for a matchup against Carlow on the road. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
