
CRESSON, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball began AMCC play on Wednesday night and took down Mt. Aloysius on the road, 73-51.
It was even through the opening 10 minutes of play, as the Redhawks battled back from a 10-4 deficit halfway through to keep things square at 14-14 by the end of the quarter.
The red and black were dominant in the second quarter, scoring 11 straight points after the Mounties opened the frame with a free-throw to take a 26-15 lead, ultimately outscoring the hosts 18-4 in the quarter to lead 32-18 at the half.
Out of the locker room, Mt. Aloysius got a spark, utilizing an 8-2 run to trim the deficit back down to single digits at 34-26.
With the score sitting at 36-28, La Roche went on another run, this time 11-2, rebuilding a double-digit margin and its highest at 47-30 and ultimately led 51-35 going into the fourth.
The final frame saw the Redhawks push the lead into the 20's just past the midway point, as they cruised to victory to open AMCC play.
For the game, La Roche shot 38.4% (28-for-73) from the floor and 5-for-20 (25%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 12-for-15 (80%).
On the other side, the Mounties went on to shoot 30.2% (16-for-53) from the field, 2-for-14 from deep (14.3%) and 17-for-22 (77.3%) from the foul line.
Three Redhawks ended the night in double figures, led by Makayla Abram's double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Alexis Robison contributed 14 points, while Jazmine Dunn scored 11 points and added five rebounds, six assists and three steals.
J'La Kizart loaded the stat sheet again with six points, eight rebounds, three assists and five steals in just 19 minutes off the bench.
La Roche returns to the court Saturday, Dec. 7, continuing AMCC play on the road against Alfred State. Opening tip is set for 4 p.m.
