Redhawks Fall Short In Comeback Effort Against Ferrum

GRANVILLE, Ohio – La Roche women's basketball opened play in the Denison University Tournament on Saturday night against Ferrum, but fell short against the Panthers, 63-56.

The first quarter was all Ferrum, holding the Redhawks to just two field goals (one from two and one from three) to lead 13-5.

The red and black again struggled in the second quarter, making only a pair of three-pointers and two free-throws, facing a 28-13 deficit at the break.

Out of the locker room, La Roche got the offense clicking and would eventually take the lead.

Trailing 36-27 with 5:55 remaining in the third, the Redhawks outscored the Panthers 16-3 down the stretch and took a 43-39 lead into the fourth

The final quarter saw a response by Ferrum out of the gate, outscoring the red and black 12-2 over the first 7:12 of play to regain a 51-45 edge and never allowed La Roche back within three to seal the victory.

For the game, La Roche shot 35.8% (19-for-53) from the floor and 8-for-14 (57.1%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 10-for-17 (58.8%).

On the other side, Ferrum went on to shoot 34% (17-for-40) from the field, 6-for-17 (35.3%) from deep and 23-for-33 (69.7%) from the foul line.

Three Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with Alexis Robison's 15 points leading the charge.

Jazmine Dunn contributed 13 points and six rebounds, while Kiyana Dowling netted 11 points.

La Roche returns to the court tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 17 when they face Adrian in the Denison University Tournament Third Place game. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
