Redhawks Cruise Past Barons To Open 2024 Season

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio. – La Roche women's basketball opened the 2024 regular season in dominant fashion, defeating Franciscan 88-36 on the road.

The first quarter was all Redhawks, outscoring the Barons 22-2 after Franciscan scored the opening basket of the game to lead 22-4 going into the second quarter.

The red and black only continued to build on the lead in the second quarter, once again outscoring the Barons by double figures, 21-11, to take a commanding 43-15 lead into the half.

Out of the locker room, La Roche continued to build the lead to 50-18 and the only real run of the night by Franciscan came at that point, 14-9 to make it 59-32 into the fourth.

The final quarter was again all Redhawks, outscoring the Barons 29-4, including a 21-0 run across 7:05 to solidify the victory.

For the game, La Roche shot 51.9% (40-for-77) from the floor and 4-for-13 (30.8%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 4-for-8 (50%).

On the other side, Franciscan went on to shoot just 30.2% (13-for-43) from the field, 1-for-15 (6.7%) from deep and 9-for-20 (45%) from the foul line.

Four Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with Dasja Anderson's 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals leading the way.

Avina Norman contributed 13 points off the bench, while Alexis Robison netted 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, followed by Makayla Abram with 10 points and seven boards.

La Roche returns to the court on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they face Ferrum in the Denison University Tournament at Denison. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
