Abram and Hairston's Double-Doubles Push Redhawks Past Lions 72-64

ERIE, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball had a second half explosion offensively, pouring in 48 points to comeback and down Penn State Behrend 72-64 for its 29th consecutive AMCC victory.

First quarter was all Lions, limiting the Redhawks to just six points, taking a 13-6 lead into the second quarter.

La Roche took over the lead in the early stages of the second quarter, opening with a 10-2 run to lead 16-15.

A 6-0 Behrend run countered to give the lead back to the Lions, 21-16, one they would hold heading into the locker room with a score of 28-24.

Out of the break, the Redhawks again used a big run of 9-2 to take a 33-30 lead, but with 3:43 remaining the pendulum swung back to Behrend who overtook the edge at 38-37.

At 3:07, Makayla Abram gave La Roche a 39-38 lead with a pair of free-throws, beginning what would be a 13-2 run over the next 2:58. The Lions would hit a three to close the quarter and the Redhawks held now a 50-43 lead.

In the fourth, the teams traded back-and-forth as La Roche wouldn't allow Behrend to come any closer than six points, sealing the victory in the battle of early unbeaten AMCC teams.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 38.5% (25-for-65) from the floor and 4-for-13 (30.8%) from deep. From the charity stripe, La Roche went 18-for-26 (69.2%).

On the other side, the Lions went on to shoot 40.6% (26-for-64) from the field, 6-for-22 (27.3%) from three and 6-for-10 (60%) from the free-throw line.

Four Redhawks hit double figures on the night and two put together massive double-doubles.

Abram led the team in scoring with 22 points to go alongside 14 rebounds, matching her career high, with 10 coming on the offensive side.

Machia Hairston earned herself a double-double, netting 17 points and corralling 19 rebounds, falling just one shy of her career mark, making it her fourth double-double of the season.

Alexis Robison chipped in 13 points and Jazmine Dunn added 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks and assists.

La Roche looks to make it 30 consecutive AMCC victories, when they travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, Dec. 9. Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m.
