Fourth Quarter Rally By Lions Halts Redhawks 83-73

WILMINGTON, Ohio – La Roche women's basketball was unable to hold off a fourth quarter surge by Mt. St. Joseph, falling to the lions 83-73 in the Redhawks first game at the Fred Raizk Memorial Classic, hosted by Wilmington.

The first quarter belonged to La Roche. After a stalemate the first 3:04 with the score sitting tied 3-3, the Redhawks would gain a brief lead, but fall behind 8-7 just before the midway point of the quarter.

La Roche would go on to outscore Mt. St. Joseph 13-5 the second half of the quarter to take a 20-13 lead into the second.

The Redhawks grew their lead to 25-13 with a 5-0 run to open the second quarter, but from there would be outscored 16-8 as La Roche's halftime lead stood at 33-29.

Out of the break, another 5-0 run by the Redhawks in the first 1:49 of the third opened the lead back to nine at 38-29 and then ultimately up to ten at 45-35 at the 5:16 remaining mark.

The lead stayed at 10, reading 50-40, until a 10-4 Lions run trimmed the edge to 54-50, but La Roche would up the lead by one point at the end of the third, 57-52.

Mt. St. Joseph came out on fire to open the fourth, using an 8-0 run in the first 1:40 to take a 60-57 lead.

The Redhawks would tie the game 60-60 with 6:57 remaining, but the Lions would then use a 15-6 run to grow the lead to 75-66 with 2:11 left.

The closest La Roche came the rest of the way was six points, as Mt. St. Joseph would hold on to close the victory.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 37.9% (25-for-66) from the floor and 5-for-17 (29.4%) from deep. From the charity stripe, La Roche went 18-for-24 (75%).

On the other side, the Lions went on to shoot 41.8% (28-for-67) from the field, 9-for-30 (30%) from three and 18-for-22 (81.8%).

Leading the Redhawks offensively was Makayla Abram, with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Machia Hairston also added a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards, while Jazmine Dunn stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Alexis Robison was the fourth La Roche player in double figures, scoring 14 to go with four boards.

The Redhawks are right back on the floor, tomorrow, Saturday Nov. 18 when they meet the host, Wilmington, for a 3 p.m. matchup.
