Women's Basketball Takes a Loss on the Road

Women's Basketball Takes a Loss on the Road

SPRINGFIELD, OH - Women's basketball faced off with the Asbury Eagles. This was La Roche's first time competing against the team in program history and unfortunately, they will not be adding to the win column.

The Redhawks put up a fight and for a short amount of time managed to keep the lead. Machia Hairston once again set the standard for her team achieving another double-double. Hairston scored 19 points and snagged 13 rebounds for her team.

One area where La Roche dominated was the paint. It's where Makayla Abram gathered most of her 17 points, going 7-for-12, and drawing fouls that all resulted in points for the team. She also fought and won 9 rebounds.

With all of these things going right, it was hard for the team to not get frustrated by their 6-point loss. The reason however lies within the Redhawk defense. The Eagles earned 22 points from second chances, whereas La Roche only managed 14. The same is said for fast break points, which sometimes resulted in fouls. Danajah Sanders scored 15 points in this afternoon's matchup but collected 4 fouls. Asbury went 24-for-29 at the free throw line, likely giving them the extra points they needed to sneak past with a win.

Alexis Robison did step up for the Redhawks, providing them with an additional 15 points, and hitting her stride. In the end, however, it just wasn't enough.

La Roche will play one more game before we ring in the New Year. The Redhawks will travel to Geneva on the 30th; tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
