Women's Basketball Earns First Win of 2022-23 Season

PITTSBURGH, PA - Women's basketball championed their first win of the season. They put on a show for the home crowd, finalizing their first win of the season 86-36 over the Buffalo State Bengals.

The team took a minute to find the rhythm, but once they did the Redhawks showed why they were the AMCC Champions last season.

Makayla Abram led the offense in tonight's contest. Abram showed her versatility on the court shooting 63.6% from the field, and 2 for 2 at the three-point line. Abram totaled 18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist.

La Roche put in work in the paint, scoring 20 points more than their opponent. The same is true for their perseverance on defense. La Roche earned 20 fast break points and 13-second chance points. Machia Hairston was a huge factor, snagging 16 rebounds for the Redhawks, as well as 2 steals and 9 points.

Alexis Robison and Danajah Sanders both netted 14 points. The freshman point guard, Jazmine Dunn created scoring opportunities for herself. She pockets 11 points of her own.

Janessa Goins also had a big game this evening. Goins was the definition of a team player; she scored 5 points, and led in assists with 5, and 3 blocked shots.

Next Tuesday, La Roche will be back at home to take on Baldwin Wallace a few days before turkey day. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
