Tough Loss for the Redhawks at Baldwin Wallace

Berea, Ohio- This evening the Redhawks (3-1) took on the Yellow Jackets(2-1).

Starting for the Redhawks were Makayla Abram (forward), Danajah Sanders (guard), Machia Hairston (guard), Ayanna Mazyck (guard), and Shaundrea Butler (guard). 

For Baldwin Wallace, Lily Edwards (forward), Megan Scheibelhut (forward), Regan Schill (guard), Izzy Andrews (guard), and Megan Hensel (guard) started the game. 

First Period

In the first quarter the Redhawks found themselves not playing the game that they wanted to play. La Roche scored 10 points to Baldwin Wallace's 22. 

The leading scorers in this period was Makayla Abram with four, tied with Shaundrea Butler who also had four. The only other Redhawk to score during this period was Danajah Sanders with a made two point field goal. 

The leading scorer for the Jackets was Lily Evans, who scored eight points in the first period, followed by Izzy Andrews with four. 

Second Period

The second period went much better for the Redhawks. They worked hard and scored 17 to Baldwin Wallace's 17. 

Sanders was able to go off and light up the offensive for La Roche. In this period alone Sander contributed nine points. Mazyck also added to the score with a quick three point field goal. Butler also added a basket. The reason for this sudden burst of scoring is that the Redhawks' defense was able to get Edwards on a short leash. Edwards only had four points in the second quarter, cutting her buckets in half. 

The score leader for the Jacket's this quarter was Hensel with six points. 

Score going into half: 39-27, BWU. 

Third Period

The third period did not go LRU's way. After they came out of the half and didn't score until 6:32 remaining in the period. The bucket that put them back on the board was from Hairston, a layup. 

BWU went on a six point run before the Redhawks were able to get back on the board.

The Jackets' also adapted to the guarding of Edwards, and found new ways to feed her in the paint. Edwards had 10 of BWU's 22. 

This period was similar to the first. La Roche had 13 points this quarter to Baldwin Wallace's 22.

Fourth Period

The final quarter was not kind to the Redhawks. The team scored nine points to the Jackets' 15.

Playing this last quarter for La Roche was Jayna Henderson (two points), Alaya Henderson (three points), Alexis Robinson (two points), and Nia Thomas (two points). 

Edwards for the Yellow Jackets did not slow down and added seven more points to the overall score. 

Final Statistics 

Lily Edwards was the leading scorer for the Yellow Jackets with 29 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals (played 24 minutes). Following behind her was Megan Hensel with 10 points, and two rebounds. 

For La Roche Danajah Sanders took home 14 points, three rebounds, one block and one steal. Next, Makayla Abram contributed seven points, two rebounds, and one steal. 

Leading the Redhawks in assists was Shaundrea Butler with four. Butler also added six points, two rebounds and a steal. 

Machia Hairston led La Roche in rebounds with seven. 


The Redhawks are back on the court on December 1, as they start conference play at Penn State- Altoona.
