@LaRocheWBB Hosts Pitt Greensburg in AMCC Semi-Final

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball takes on Pitt Greensburg tomorrow evening in the AMCC semi-final at the Kerr Fitness Center. The Redhawks have advanced to the championship round all but one time under Head Coach Kamela Gissendanner who is in her seventh season with LRU. La Roche defeated Pitt Greensburg in both regular season meetings this season but only by a slim average margin of victory of 6.5 points. Tip-off for tomorrow's contest is set for 6:00 p.m.

Postseason History

  • The Redhawks fell to Penn St. Behrend in last years AMCC semi-final at the Kerr, 57-56. Jenna Cole hit a late 3-PT to put the game within one but it wasn't enough.

  • The Redhawks were the most prolific offense in the AMCC this season. La Roche led the conference with 75.3 points per game while shooting 45.7% from the field (1st in AMCC) and 34.9% from long range (1st in AMCC).
  • Jenna Cole led the team with 16.0 points per game in conference play. Cole was dangerous from 3-PT range where she shot an AMCC best 42.9% in conference games. When she got fouled, Cole shot an incredible 90.7% from the free throw line (1st in AMCC, 5th in D-III). She also contributed 6.3 rebounds per game (3rd on team).
  • Ayanna Mazyck has made a big splash in her first season with La Roche. She averages 13.8 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game. Mazyck is elite on defense, averaging an AMCC best 2.5 steals per game. Ayanna has proven to be a problem from deep as well as she averages 1.7 triples a game while 32.5% from deep, both marks rank 7th in the conference.
  • Dasja Anderson has been one of La Roche's most efficient players and leading rebounder. At 5-9, Anderson has averaged 11.9 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game (12th in AMCC), 2.9 assists per game (10th in AMCC) and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 52.1% (3rd in AMCC) from the field.
  • Shaundrea Butler has been one of the best ball distributor's in the league this season. In conference play, Butler has averaged 8.7 points per game, 5.5 assists per game (2nd in AMCC), 3.4 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals per game. Her 1.9 assists to turnover ratio ranked 4th in the league.
  • Danajah Sanders can score 10+ on any given night. She averges 10.8 points per game and 1.5 triples per game (10th in AMCC).

Pitt Greensburg (OVR: 14-6, 17-9)

News and Notes

  • UPG took down Penn St. Behrend convincingly in the first round of the AMCC playoffs Tuesday night, 71-53. Four different Bobcats finished in double-digit scoring figures. 
  • Pitt-Greensburg entered the tournament as the #4 seed, as the Bobcats are making their first appearance in the postseason tournament since 2016.
  • Junior guard/forward Nadege Durand has been strong for the Bobcats all season, averaging just shy of a double-double. With her 15.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, she ranks in the top 5 in the conference in both categories.
  • Sophomore forward Maddie Sitler is the only other Bobcat averaging double figures with 11.5 per game.
  • Junior forward Shaquoia McCray's 9.8 rebounds per game ranks third in the AMCC, while her 108 boards on the offensive glass is tops in the league.

Series History

  • The Redhawks are 18-3 against the Bobcats dating back to the 2010-11 season, but UPG has won three of the last six matchups
  • La Roche defeated Pitt Greensburg in both meetings this season. The first game went into overtime after Dasja Anderson made a last minute layup. In the second game, La Roche went on a late 11-0 run to pull away in a close game at UPG.
